As the global war on terror continues, coalition members are finding that their assets are aging faster than planned. Life cycles that were being stretched are now approaching the breaking point. With new threats comes the need for different capabilities. In response, the Department of Defense is deploying several continuous improvement initiatives including Air Force Smart Operations 21 (AFSO 21), and Army and Navy's Lean Six Sigma. Though much progress has been made, the efforts to date have been focused on traditional operational environments, SPS believes that Lean Six Sigma offers significant benefit to other military operations.
